Site information
Privacy and your data
This page explains what data this site does and does not collect when you read it. Readers have no account, no sign-up and no need to give us any personal details, so most of what a typical website holds does not exist here.
What this site does not ask for
There are no accounts and no sign-up on this site. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth or payment details to read any page. Nothing here is gated behind a form, and there is no newsletter collecting addresses.
Because no account exists, there is no profile of you to log into, amend or close. If you follow a link to our partner, that partner's own privacy policy applies to whatever happens on their site, and you should read it before providing anything to them.
Analytics, cookies and server records
The site may use analytics and cookies to see which pages are read and how readers arrive at them. Analytics of that kind reports on visits in aggregate rather than telling us who you are, and cookies are small files a browser stores on your device for that purpose. Your browser settings let you block or delete cookies, and the site should still be readable if you do.
Like most websites, the server that delivers these pages records standard technical information such as the requested page and the browser type. We do not use those records to identify individual readers. We do not sell reader data, and we do not build profiles for advertising.
The Privacy Act 1988 and removal requests
The Australian Privacy Act 1988 sets the framework for how personal information is handled in Australia, including the Australian Privacy Principles. We treat that framework as the standard for this site, even though the site asks for very little from readers in the first place.
If you believe the site holds information about you, you can write to the editorial desk and ask what is held and ask for it to be corrected or removed. Because there are no accounts, most requests will concern analytics or server records, and we will explain what can and cannot be found. We will respond to the address you write from.
Links to our partner and other sites
Pages here link to our partner and to other third-party sites. Once you leave this site, the privacy practices of the destination apply, not ours, and those practices may differ from what is described on this page. It is worth reading the privacy information on any site before you hand over details or money.
We do not control what a third party collects, and we cannot remove information you have given to another site. Any request about data held by our partner or by another operator has to go to that operator directly.
Advertising and affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links, which means the site may receive a commission if a reader visits our partner through them. That arrangement does not give us access to your account, your details or your transaction history with our partner.
Affiliate tracking typically records that a visit came from this site. It does not tell us who the visitor was.
Changes to this page
If the way the site handles data changes, this page will be updated to describe the new arrangement. The current wording is the one that applies, and older versions are not kept as separate pages.
If any part of this page is unclear, write to the editorial desk and ask before relying on your own reading of it.
Questions
Do I need to create an account or give my details to use this site?
No. There is no sign-up, no login and no form asking for personal details, so you can read every page without giving us anything. Any details you choose to give our partner are handled under that partner's own privacy policy.
How do I ask for information about me to be removed?
Write to the editorial desk and say what you believe is held and what you want done with it. Because there are no accounts, most requests concern analytics or server records, and we will tell you what can be found and removed.
